California is a great state for families. With beautiful and diverse natural landscapes, plentiful economic opportunities, many housing options, a dedication to education, and tons of entertainment and fun things to do, its no wonder why parents choose to raise their children in the state. A recent study ranked the best communities for families and the results are in......El Dorado Hills was ranked as the #8 best community to raise a family in California!!

To determine the rankings, financial website Wallethub compared 240 cities across the state and looked at four key dimensions…(1)Education, Health, & Safety, (2)Family Life & Fun, (3)Socioeconomic Environment, and (4)Affordability. Within these dimensions, 21 metrics were used to evaluate the scores. These metrics included factors such as quality of school system, crime rates per capita, number of playgrounds and attractions, housing and general affordability, unemployment rate, and foreclosure rate. El Dorado Hills truly came out on top! Not only did the city rank 8th for the overall score, but it was ranked #1 for Most Affordable Housing and #2 for Highest Median Family Income in the state!

The Random Strangers & BBQ Dinner

Date: Friday, November 4th

Time: 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Mother Lode Lions Hall (4701 Missouri Flat Road, Diamond Springs)

Cost: $35 per person, $60 per couple

Enjoy a delicious BBQ Tri-Tip dinner with beans and coleslaw before rocking the night out to El Dorado County’s favorite Americana band The Random Strangers from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. Madroña Vineyards

Date: Saturday, November 5th

Location: Madroña Vineyard (2560 High Hill Road, Camino)

El Dorado Western Railroad Ride

Date: Sunday, September 6th

Time: 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

Location: El Dorado Station (4500 Oriental Street, El Dorado)

Cost: $7 donation requested (ages 9 and older), $3 donation requested (ages 3-8)

Take a step back in time aboard the El Dorado Western Railroad. This living history program is put on by the El Dorado County Historical Museum. Take a round trip ride, lasting 30 to 40 minutes, on a restored Fairmont track inspection car.


Annual Crab & Chowder Gala  

Date: Saturday, November 12th

Time: 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Mark D. Forni Building at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds (100 Placerville Drive, Placerville)

Cost: $45 per person

Fill your bellies with all you can eat Dungeness Crab, New England Clam Chowder, and more at this annual fundraiser. After dinner, dance away to the musical talents of Dream & the Dreamer. All proceeds from this event go towards improving the aging infrastructure at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.


Bottle Your Own at Fenton Herriott Vineyards

Date: Sunday, November 13th

Time: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Location: Fenton Herriott Vineyards (120 Jacquier Ct, Placerville)

Cost: FREE to participate!

This fun allows you to bottle a delicious red blend! Under the supervision of a winery staff member, you will bottle, label, cork, and add a capsule down in the cellar. It is free to participate and you benefit from great savings on the wine at $12 per bottle for 1 to 5, $11 per bottle for 6 to 11, $10 per bottle for a case of the red blend.


Third Saturday Night ArtWalk

Date: Saturday, November 19th

Time: 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Location: Downtown Placerville

Cost: FREE!

Take a stroll in Historic Downtown Placerville will admiring some amazing art work.
